Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono Paintings refers to an exploitable photo of the former president of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, posing alongside several of his paintings. Online, Indonesian speakers edited the paintings to replace them with various images and memes.
Origin
On August 7th, 2021, Instagram[1] user @jansensitindaon uploaded various photos of Indonesia's former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono showing his paintings. The photo received more than 20,100 likes in three days (shown below). On the same day, Facebook[2] user Sanjaya Kuss Indarto reposted the photo. It received more than 2,200 reactions and 1,300 shares in three days.
Spread
The photo became popular among Indonesian speakers, who would replace the paintings in the photo with various images. For example, on August 7th, 2021, Facebook[3] user Gavyn Yudhistira uploaded an altered version of the image where the paintings were replaced by iconic Squidward Tentacles paintings. The post received 410 reactions and 820 shares in three days (shown below, left). On the next day, Facebook[4] page Televi S H I T P O S T I N G reposted the image with received more than 1,900 reactions and 166 shares. On the same day, the Facebook[5] page of Indonesian webcomic Si Juki uploaded an image where the paintings were replaced by various famous works of art such as "The Scream" and "The Mona Lisa". The post received more than 2,200 reactions and 1,300 shares in two days (shown below, left).
On August 8th, 2021, Facebook user Hanung[6] uploaded an image where the painting was changed to a scene from Neon Genesis Evangelion. The post received more than 780 reactions and 1,200 shares (shown below, left). On the same day, Twitter[7] user @Medanseni uploaded the image. The tweet received more than 1,300 likes and 348 retweets (shown below, center). On the next day, Instagram[8] user @komikkitaig uploaded a cartoonish version of the photo. The image received more than 3,800 likes in less than one day (shown below, right).
