Sweatshirt Ear Kid refers to a Vine video in which a boy with a sweatshirt hood over his head save for his ears turns around with a grin on his face while "Drop It Like It's Hot" by Snoop Dogg plays. The video became one of the more well-known Vines and has been referenced in memes for years after it was posted.
Origin
While the precise date of the Vine's posting is unclear, it was posted by user It's Just Luke, real name Luke Abercrombie. The boy in the video is Luke's younger brother, Kyle. It was posted by YouTuber Dank Redoli on November 22nd, 2015, where it gained over 540,000 views (shown below, left). On December 7th, 2015, YouTuber ExoticMuffinMan posted the video with the title "Sweatshirt Ear Kid," gaining over 1.1 million views (shown below, right).
Spread
The Vine was recognized as one of the most memorable in multiple Vine compilations. It was the icon for popular Vine compilation "vines that cure my depression" posted Banana Jin which gained over 19 million views (shown below, left). On June 30th, 2018, Luke Abercrombie (It's Just Luke) posted a recreation of the Vine with his brother Kyle in a video that gained over 4 million views (shown below, right).
The video was referenced in 2018 in Feel Old Yet? parodies comparing the kid to PewDiePie. For example, a post on /r/PewDiePie submissions by juliahxn gained over 2,700 points (shown below, left). Another by BlindBonobo gained over 190 points (shown below, right).
