Why The Fuck You Lyin' or Why You Always Lyin' is a viral video in which Viner Nicholas Fraser performs a short homemade song about liars in his backyard to the tune of the 1997 R&B song "Too Close" by Next. The video has spawned numerous remixes and parodies, and spawned a reaction image macro series featuring a screen capture of Fraser smiling at the camera.
Origin
On August 29th, 2015, Viner[9] Nicholas Fraser uploaded a short clip titled "That one person that's sways lying on what they own"[1], featuring himself listening to another person telling a lie. The clip then cut to Fraser, dancing in a backyard while singing "Why the fuck you lyin'?" to the tune of the 1997 single "Too Close" from the American R&B band Next. Fraser also uploaded the clip simultaneously to his YouTube, Instagram and Twitter accounts.[3]
That day, the video was reposted to YouTube, where it gained over 3.5 million views and 2,100 comments over the next two years (reupload shown below).

The following day, on August 30th, Fraser re-posted the music portion of the clip to Vine[2], titled "When she say [sic] she got a cute friend for you.". In early September, several news sites published articles about the viral video, including BuzzFeed,[5] The Guardian,[6] and Complex.[7] On September 14th, Fraser uploaded the full-length music video for the cover song, which received more than 23 million views and 28,300 comments over the next two years (shown below).
Meanwhile, parodies of the clip began circulating on Vine with the hashtags #WhyTheFuckYouLying,[8] many of which were reposted on YouTube and Instagram (shown below, left). Additionally, a screen capture of Fraser was widely used as a reaction image (shown below, right).
On October 15th, 2015, the Fine Brothers YouTube channel uploaded an episode of Elders React featuring remixes of the Fraser video (shown below). Within two years, the video received upwards of 11.5 million views and 6,900 comments.
