Talk Tuah Guest Edits, also known as X on Talk Tuah, refers to a series of memes imagining various people and characters on Hailey Welch's Talk Tuah podcast. Started by an edit in which philosopher Slavoj Žižek was edited next to Hailey Welch, the format was popularized in September 2024.
Origin
On September 14th, 2024, X[1] user @missjellinsky edited an image of Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Žižek into a still image from an episode of Talk Tuah, adding him as a guest on the podcast. The image, captioned, "Man Zizek will really do anything," received over 1.2 million views, 2,300 reposts and 42,000 likes in two weeks (shown below).
Spread
The image saw viral spread online through reposts: for example, on September 15th, 2024, Facebook[2] page Dolphinger Center for Memetic Studies reposted the image, with the post gaining over 530 reactions and 130 shares in two weeks.
On September 20th, 2024, X[3] user @ChampagneAnyone posted an edit in which North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was edited in as a guest. The post (shown below) received over 13,000 reposts and 303,000 likes in one week.
The edit was followed by more memes based on the template posted on X, Facebook and Instagram in the following week. For example, on September 21st, 2024, X[4] user @Miles_Mandel posted a Metal Gear Solid version of the meme that received over 2,000 reposts and 18,000 likes in six days (shown below).
On September 22nd, 2024, X[5] user @RANDOMC_L_EVENT shared a template for the meme, promoting its further spread.
