Tallahassee Wiping Tears With Money refers to a reaction meme from 2009 film Zombieland. The scene shows the character Tallahassee (portrayed by Woody Harrelson) wiping his tears with money instead of a tissue. The scene came to be used as a reaction meme and GIF to describe people who may project sadness and regret but ultimately face no hardships because of their money.

Origin

On October 2nd, 2009, the action-comedy film Zombieland has been premiered in the US[1]. In the film, there's a scene of character Tallahassee having a flashback of his deceased son and then starting to cry, later he wipe his eyes with money (scene shown below).

On October 18th, 2019, the official Tenor[2] account of Zombieland uploaded the GIF of the scene (shown below).

In subsequent years, the scene gained traction as a reaction GIF for when a wealthy people or corporation faces criticism, implying that they may show regret and sadness but will ultimately still profit and enjoy their money.

On January 9th, 2020, Reddit[3] user Work_Confusion posted an edit to /r/memes where Tallahasse represents Disney's reaction to people disliking the new Star Wars movies. The post received more than 48,000 upvotes in four years (shown below).

On June 22nd, 2022, Reddit[4] user AestheticMirror uploaded an similar edit about the video game Diablo and Blizzard's controversies at the time to the /r/gaming subreddit. The post received more than 15,000 upvotes before it was deleted (shown below).
