The Angry New Jersey Cook refers to a character created by TikToker @itsqcp who shows viewers how to cook Italian dishes angrily. The character which began in January 2020 launch the TikTokers success but the popularity was quickly challenged after Twitter fans began sharing his TikTok videos in which he impersonates an "angry ghetto girl" and a "ghetto Black man."

Origin

On January 2nd, 2020, TikToker @itsqcp released the parody video "The Angry New Jersey Cooking Show – Episode 1: Spaghetti and Meatballs (10% anger)" (shown below). The video gained over 625,800 likes in four days.

Spread

On January 3rd, 2020, Twitter user @mimms[1] reposted his TikTok with the caption "This really aggressive New Jersey kid cooking pasta is my new TikTok obsession: 'Pasta, ya asshole!'" The tweet garnered over 485,400 likes and 106,100 retweets in three days. The next day, TikToker @itsqcp uploaded the second episode which became even more popular with over 3.7 million likes in three days (shown below, left). That day he uploaded two more episodes which received over 249,800 likes and 273,600 likes respectively (shown below, right). Twitter user @alexeptable[2] discovered that @itsqcp posted more content and shared a new episode on Twitter with the caption, "BREAKING: Aggressive Jersey pasta child has more content." The video accumulated over 14,900 likes and 2,600 retweets in two days.

On January 4th, Twitter users and TikTokers began to explore @itsqcp older TikTok videos. An interview with the Daily Dot[3] revealed that the cooking videos launched his success saying that "his follower count jumped from around 620,000 to more than 1.2 million." Twitter user @touchnick shared a video in which @itsqcp impersonates an "angry ghetto girl" and a "ghetto Black man." The tweet received over 42,900 likes and 6,200 retweets in two days.

The next day, Twitter user @aalexandriabish shared another problematic @itsqcp video in which he calls an Asian woman “The woman from your nail salons” (shown below).

That day, @itsqcp apologized both on TikTok and Twitter. On Twitter, his apology video caption, "Im very sorry to everyone I offended from the segment of that one video. It was rude and idiotic. I never meant to harm anyone" gained over 690 likes in a day.
