Overview
Beatles Biopic Casting Controversy refers to viral discourse, memes and jokes about the casting choices for Director Sam Mendes's The Beatles, which he has described as a "Four-Film Cinematic Event." The biopics are comprised of four different films, each focusing on a member of the legendary pop band The Beatles. The casting for the film was announced in late March 2025 and includes Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. Several internet users reacted negatively to the film's casting announcement, raising concerns about how casting familiar and established faces may be distracting and how none of the actors were from Liverpool. Several internet users described Barry Keoghan in particular as "chopped," saying that he did not resemble Ringo Starr and that his supposed filler-induced "pillow face" would distract from the story.
