About
Chopped is a slang term with multiple definitions, but in memes, it predominantly means "ugly" when used to describe people. It's been used online since the early 2010s but gained a predominant presence online starting in the early 2020s. Notably, the Chopped Chin meme spawned viral use of the term on platforms like Instagram, Twitter / X and TikTok in early 2025. Also, a photo of YouTuber and streamer Young Dabo called the Dabo Chopped Photo inspired the slang term's use in early 2025. Minor trends include the term "chuzz" – an -Uzz word that's a portmanteau of "chopped" and "huzz" – and the term "chop hoe," used to describe women. "Chopped" has roots in AAVE and Urban Dictionary users have claimed that it's from New Jersey and New York lingo.
Origin
The exact first use of the slang online is unknown, but an early definition for "chopped" meaning "ugly" was first added to the Urban Dictionary[1] on December 16th, 2014, by user R.Lavish, who wrote, "A girl or boy that's ugly," with the example sentence reading, "Bro, she chopped. With that ugly ass hair style." The definition received over 870 likes in 11 years (shown below).
Later Urban Dictionary[2] definitions for "chopped" from the late 2010s link it to "New Jersey/New York" slang.

Chopped Chin
Chopped Chin or I've Been Running Into You In My Head is a series of memes based on a viral video of former WNBA player Renee Montgomery dancing courtside with high schooler Angel Wiley (her adopted son) referred to as "chopped chin" for the appearance of his chin. The video was originally uploaded to the Atlanta Dream Instagram page in August 2023. It became the subject of memes in December 2024 when Instagram user @halal_man_2 began consistently posting motivational and emotional quotes over the video, inspiring ironic memes set to the song "Bring Me Back (Enox Mantano Remix)" by Miles Away. The videos sparked a slew of brainrot, lobotomy videos in the Hood Irony community in January 2025, which spliced Chopped Chin with other trendy memes like I Bought a Property in Egypt, Eye of Rah and Luke Belmar's "Johnnie Walker in the War Room With Tristan Tate," among others. The meme also spread to TikTok that month.

Dabo Chopped Photo
The Dabo Chopped Photo, also known as Young Dabo Chopped, refers to a photograph of YouTuber and streamer Young Dabo in which, according to viewers, he looked ugly or "chopped," mostly because of his skin that showed acne and scarring. The picture was taken from above, showing Dabo's left-side profile, seen with black headphones, a camo sweatshirt and a black bulletproof vest. It was sourced from a Plaqueboymax Twitch stream called "Rapper Bootcamp." The image was used to make fun of Dabo in January 2025 as it spread on Twitter / X, Reddit and TikTok, among other platforms, across a series of image macros and exploitable memes.
