About

Beatlemania is a term which refers to the mass fandom spawned over 1960s boy-band, The Beatles. The fandom is widely regarded as one of the largest ever, leaving a large impact upon the music industry.

Origin

The Beatles[1], were a British rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The band consists of 4 members, names Paul McCartney[2], John Lennon[3], Ringo Starr[4] and George Harrison[5]. Before The Beatles success in the US, the band found success in the UK, as well as in the rest of Europe. It is widely considered that the success of The Beatles began with their song titled "I Want to Hold Your Hand"[6]. The song is well known for triggering the first British Invasion[7].

Spread

Due to a $40,000 US marketing campaign and the support of disk jockey Carrol James. their music's spread quickly across US radio, causing an increase in demand. Released 26 December 1963, "I Want to Hold Your Hand" sold a million copies, becoming a number one hit in the US. Their success led them to visit the U.S., landing at J.F. Kennedy airport on 7 February 1964, to an estimated crowd of 3000 fans. Their success was continued until their break-up in 1970. However, despite their break-up, the success of the Beatles continued, becoming one of the most famous rock bands of all time.
