The Cooking. The Face. is a two-panel captioned image macro featuring a photograph of food underneath the words "the cooking" and a person underneath the words "the face." While many of these memes appear sincere, the format has also been subject to absurd variations.
Origin
On January 12th, 2020, Twitter [1] user @SAEKOSNOWtv tweeted the earliest known usage of the format. The post received more than 600 likes and 95 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below).
Spread
Following the post, people began posting examples of their food and their faces. For example, Twitter[2] user @55mmbae posted an example that received more than 315 likes in less than 24 hours (shown below, left).
Others began posting mock versions of the format. For example, Twitter[3] user @claftpunk tweeted a variation featuring character Charlie from the television series It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (shown below, center). Twitter[4] user @jrdnlzbthh posted a version featuring Meme Man (shown below, right).
