About

The Flames of Disaster is a line spoken by Wade Whipple, played by Adam Pally, in the television series Knuckles. The line became the subject of video remixes on Twitter in August of 2024.

Origin

In Season 1, Episode 6 of the Knuckles TV series, which aired April 26th, 2024,[1] Knuckles uses his "Flames of Disaster" power-up, leading Wade Whipple to exclaim "The flames of disaster!"

The line reading saw use in some jokes in the months after it aired, but began being used as a meme starting on August 27th, 2024. That day, Twitter user @MelohRush[2] made a thread discussing the possibility of the character Tom Wachowski dying in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie. The thread devolved into a comedic discussion in which user @ghost5985[3] claimed that "they aren't killing characters in a sonic the hedgehog movie", and was immediately disproven by the many examples of character deaths in the movie franchise so far.

At the conclusion of the thread, the final battle scene of the Knuckles series was posted, to which user @Jackeroni216[4] replied: "THE FLAMES OF DISASTER‼️🔥🔥🤯", bringing attention back to the humorous quote's line delivery.

The final factor that caused the quote to go viral is when, on August 28th, voice actor @ultiknite[5] created a voiceover of the exchange that quickly blew up and gained over 13,000 retweets and 66,000 likes as of September 1st, 2024.

Spread

Multiple remixes featuring the line reading spread on Twitter on August 29th and 30th. On the 29th, user @FurabioOtoMAD[6] posted a Fight Against an Armed Boss remix of the line, gaining over 2,900 retweets and 16,000 likes in one day.

The same day, user @awyeindid[7] posted a remix of a Sonic the Hedgehog scene with the line reading, gaining over 1,800 retweets and 13,000 likes in one day.

The same day, user @OmunieFlowers[8] posted a mashup of the line reading and the Bite of'87 meme, gaining over 2,500 retweets and 15,000 likes in one day.

On August 30th, user @ContendoYT[9] posted a remix of the line with a scene from Super Mario 64, gaining over 750 retweets and 3,500 likes in less than one day.
