The Most Esoteric Bitch, also known as, The Most Esoteric X In This X RN, refers to a phrasal template used in memes to emphasize how "esoteric" the creator is in comparison to everyone else in a given setting. The first use of the catchphrase was posted on Twitter in early 2020, however, it was used in abundance on Instagram a year later. It's similar in nature to Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss and I'm The Main Character, also known as "Main Character Syndrome."

Origin

On January 20th, 2020, Twitter^[1] user czechwun posted a tweet that read, "gotta be the most esoteric mf at the grocery store," earning 77 likes over the course of two years (shown below). The tweet is the first known form of the phrase.

Spread

On October 29th of the same year, Twitter^[2] user billyjoebaldwin tweeted, "about to take the most esoteric shower of life," earning 29 likes over a year and a half (shown below). Although the tweet does not follow the template exactly, it is an early example of the concept picking up traction.

In early 2021, the phrase received increased attention on Instagram. For instance, the first user to make an image macro with the phrase was Instagram^[3] user princessgoldenshower on January 9th, 2021. The meme (shown below) used an exploitable of a blonde woman wearing a pink dress and high heels, commonly used in Girlboss memes. The meme had a caption reading, "i have to b the most esoteric cunt inside the 7/11 rn." Over the course of one year, the post received 188 likes.

Later that month, on January 23rd, Instagram^[4] page pictures_of_neat_things posted a meme that added to the trend, captioning an image with, "On A Journey To Become The Most Esoteric Bimbo On Instagram Dot Com," earning 119 likes for the post over the course of one year (shown below, left). Three months later, Instagram^[5] page ciabackedhellscaping posted a meme that also used the exploitable blonde woman in a pink dress and high heels, now edited into a dark sewer. The caption of the meme read in Impact font, "I Have To Be The Most Esoteric Bitch In This Sewer RN" (shown below, right). Over the course of eight months, the meme received roughly 1,100 likes.

On April 14th, 2021, Instagram^[6] page thisisafleshprison posted another iteration of the template, captioning a meme with, "I Have To Be The Most Esoteric Bitch In This 1-On-1 Therapy Session RN," earning roughly 6,700 likes for the meme over the course of eight months (shown below).

Going into 2022, the phrase picked up again on Twitter. For instance, Twitter^[7] user erowidvaults1 posted a tweet on January 11th that read, "i have to be the most esoteric goth girl in Michaels for some reason," receiving 86 likes for the tweet (shown below).

On January 18th, "The Most Esoteric Bitch" memes received an increase in attention after notable Drain Gang member Ecco2k reposted the "esoteric bitch in this sewer" meme to their Instagram Story. A screenshot of the Story was posted to Instagram^[8] by on_a_downward_spiral, who received roughly 5,700 likes for the post in an hour (shown below).
