About
The Winchester Plan refers to a memorable scene from the 2004 horror-comedy film Shaun of the Dead where the characters of the film, Shaun (Simon Pegg) and Ed (Nick Frost) think of a plan to escape the zombie epidemic that is an occurring throughout the film. The scene is often used in response to disastrous or poor situations in which one would avoid and wait for the worst part of it to go away.
Most of the presence from this meme in pop culture usually derives from the ending of the scene where Shaun stating "Go to the Winchester, grab a pint and wait for this to all blow over!" whilst smiling, winking and holding a pint glass full of beer with every other character smiling and having a good time around him.
Origin
The scene originates from the 2004 British horror-comedy film Shaun of the Dead which stars Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Kate Ashfield, Lucy Davis, Dylan Moran, Penelope Wilton and Bill Nighy.
The film is set during a zombie epidemic outbreak and one of the most notable scenes from the film occurs when the two main characters Shaun and Ed divise a plan to save their family and friends from the epidemic. In the scene, Shaun comes up with three scenarios which they take (see below).
Out of the three, they choose the third plan which was that would save and take their family and friends to the Winchester, the local pub and wait until the epidemic dies down and goes away.
Spread
Ever since the release of the film, the scene has been parodied, spoofed, remixed and used to describe events in everyday life.
Several examples that have been used are the United Kingdom's departure from the European Union and other references relating to pop culture including Star Wars as well.
