There was never Boogle, also known as Boogle is a reaction meme, is a phrase spoken by a fish-like creature named Boogle in the 2026 animated film Swapped. The meme originally started started as a reaction with many people expressing shock at the sudden twist. It later morphed into a backing audio to express a situation where a person has a sudden betrayal or change of heart. The image of Boogle leaping out of the water also gained popularity as a sticker on Instagram and Tiktok.

Origin

The phrase originates from the 2026 animated film Swapped. Produced by Skydance Animation, the film follows a woodland mammal named Ollie and a tropical bird named Ivy who accidentally "swap" (get it) bodies. Faced with this dilemna, they must work together to find magical pods which will allow them to revert back to their original selves. In the film, they befriend a rotund fish named Boogle who promises to lead them to the location of the pods. However, as soon as they transform, when asked what animal he would like to transform into, Boogle leaps out of the water and reveals himself to be the Fire Wolf, a twisted wolf and the main antagonist of the film.

The line quickly became a trending topic on Tiktok and Instagram with many creators sharing their opinions on what they considered to be a surprising twist for an animated video, on par with other notable plot twists. Others commented on the overnight appearance of the movie Swapped all over their for-you pages. Later, several creators utilized the audio to create videos of situations where a person suddenly revealed their true colors.

Various Examples

On May 9, Tiktok creator eiei.edit posted a 06:23 clip of the film which received 2.5M likes an 200.4K saves. The clip offered a recap of the entire movie and featured the notable line. The clip was well-received with commenters sharing their surprise at the twist and making joke such as "There was never Google, there was only Firefox".

On May 16, 2026, thedepressedgenz posted a clip of the film captioned "Kids movie" with a skull emote which received 129k likes. The clip shows the movie scene of Boogle's transformation with a greyscale filter applied over it.
