AI Overviews refers to a practice of tricking Google's AI Overviews by Gemini, into believing that the user is not a human but rather a small baby animal who can not find its mother and prompting it to give corresponding advice, or something similar to that. The participatory meme achieved popularity in early June 2025 as users shared their absurd interactions with Google's Gemini AI on social media.

Origin

On June 1st, 2025, Tumblr^[1] user todaysbird posted a screenshot of Google's AI Overview for the query about pigeon species with the longest recorded lifespan in captivity, in which Google's AI incorrectly referred to "stool pigeon" as "fecal pigeon." In the comment section of the post, Tumblr user aquar-io wrote, "I really love googling 'I am a small baby deer where is mama' and google ai reassuring me that mama is nearby" (shown below).

Later on June 1st, 2025, todaysbird posted a screenshot of a Google AI Overview for the query in which the AI believed that the user was indeed a baby deer and advised them to stay still and quiet and wait for their mother to return. The post (shown below) garnered over 4,800 reblogs and 7,600 likes on Tumblr^[2] in two weeks.
