These Are Four Different Movies refers to a series of parody posts primarily on Reddit in which people post screenshots from various films and accurately describe them as "four different movies." The trend was inspired by four screenshots of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson wearing similar outfits in four different movies, but since became a vehicle for ironic memes, such as showing four very different films with the catchphrase.

Origin

On September 23rd, 2024, Redditor dramatic_experience6 posted to /r/shittymoviedetails^[1] a composite of four images of Dwayne Johnson in different movies, though his outfits are extremely similar, as are the locations in which the images take place. They titled the post "This is four different movies," gaining over 40,000 points in two days.

The Redditor is not the first person to make this observation. On January 26th, 2022, Redditor 1997wickedboy posted the same image to /r/blankies^[2] with a similar title, gaining over 610 points in two and a half years.

Dramatic_experience6's post inspired a deluge of parody posts in the subreddit in which users posted ironic and anti-meme iterations with variations on the title "These are four different movies." For example, hours after dramatic_experience6's post, user Way2Foxy^[3] posted a composite of several vastly different films, such as The Godfather and The Room, and titled it, "This is six different movies," gaining over 3,400 points in two days.

The same day, user Perridur^[4] posted six images of Ian McKellan as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, titling the post "This is six different movies," gaining over 4,800 points in two days.

Over the course of two days, edits and parodies began to grow more absurd. On September 24th, Redditor willywonka985^[5] posted a picture of every actor who played The Doctor on Doctor Who with the title "These are not different characters," gaining over 6,800 points in one day.
