This Game Really Makes You Feel Like is a writing cliché that has appeared in multiple video game reviews, particularly in reviews of superhero video games. After the cliché was repeatedly ridiculed by YouTuber Videogamedunkey, the phrase gained popularity as This Game Really Makes You FEEL Like X snowclone.

Origin

On March 29th, 2014, YouTuber^[1] Videogamedunkey posted a review of the 2011 video game Batman: Arkham City. In the review, Dunkey highlighted that many people have been describing the game by saying that it made them feel like Batman.

Every time someone describes Arkham City, they say, "Ah, man, that game makes you FEEL like Batman!"

On July 8th, 2017, Videogamedunkey^[2] posted a video "Game Critics" in which he criticized the gaming journalists. In one part of the video, Dunkey higlights that the phrase "makes you feel like Batman" (with minimal deviations) appeared in Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City reviews published by A.V. Club,^[3] DarkZero,^[4] Games Radar,^[5] PC World,^[6] Cheat Code Central^[7] and IGN ^[8] (shown below, left). On September 10th, 2018, Dunkey^[9] posted a review of the 2018 game Spider-Man in which he made fun of the phrase appearing twice in a review posted by IGN (shown below, right).^[10]

Spread

Following the July 2017 "Game Critics" video, the phrase has gained moderate popularity online as This Game Really Makes You Feel Like X snowclone, particularly in comments on YouTube and among Videogamedunkey's viewers.^[11] The phrase also saw spread on Twitter and on Reddit, particularly in replies and comments and as a title for posts. For example, a June 30th, 2019, post by Redditor^[12] MiceySpankDemes in /r/videogamedunkey subreddit received over 1,400 upvotes in six months (shown below, left). A November 30th, 2019, post by Twitter^[13] user @parkerrimmons received over 340 likes in five months (shown below, right).
