We Clown In This Muthafucka Betta Take Yo Sensitive Ass Back to Y is a phrasal template used as a caption in memes about unprovoked competitiveness, often parodying overeager fans of niche and unpopular fandoms. The image macros feature actor Kevin Hart and achieved significant attention on social media in December 2022.
Origin
On June 20th, 2014, the romantic comedy film Think Like a Man Too premiered, starring Kevin Hart as character Cedric Ward.[1] A promotional image for the movie features laughing Ward gambling at a casino while a crowd of people cheers him on (shown below).[2]
Prior to February 2017, a now-defunct Facebook page @parisdoll posted a meme based on the caption which imagined Facebook to be a more hardcore place than My Space (shown below). On February 2nd, 2017, Twitter[3] user @mackkkkadelic made the earliest found repost of the image. On July 7th, 2018, Redditor Borats_Gypsy_Tears posted the image in the /r/terriblefacebookmemes[4] subreddit, where it gained over 6,900 upvotes in four years.
Spread
Prior to January 31st, 2022, an unknown user modified the image, replacing Facebook with now-defunct social media platform Google Plus (shown below). On January 31st, 2022, iFunny[5] user Windsor made the earliest found repost of the image, gaining over 100 smiles in one year. On May 6th, Twitter[6] gimmick account @ObamaEraCons reposted the image, with the post gaining over 3,700 retweets and 57,200 likes in seven months. On May 7th, Redditor ViktorDudka posted it to the /r/okbuddyretard[7] subreddit, where it garnered over 14,000 upvotes in the same period.
The format did not see further spread until October 19th, 2022, when iFunny[8] user rodina posted a version about competition between two Chinese steel manufacturers which received over 2,700 smiles in two months (shown below).
The post was frequently reposted on Twitter and other social media in the following months. For example, on November 6th, Twitter[9] user @indianafantum reposted the image, with the post accumulating over 180 retweets and 1,200 likes in one month. November 19th and December 3rd reposts by Twitter[10] user @PresidentToguro and YouTuber[11] Matt Watson gained over 700 retweets and 6,700 likes in one month and 220 retweets and 3,300 likes in three weeks, respectively.
The viral spread of the image inspired further edits; for example, on October 26th, iFunny[12] user Makarakarn posted a version about corporations in the video game Cyberpunk 2077 which gained over 20 smiles in two months (shown below, left). On December 12th, 2022, Redditor 25Hrs-a-day posted a Half-Life version that gained nearly 200 upvotes in the /r/HalfLifeMemes[13] subreddit (shown below, right).
In late December 2022, following a viral repost of the Chinese steel manufacturers' version of the meme by Twitter[14] user @jaketropolis, the format was popularized across all major social media websites.
