Top 5 Lists, also known as Top Cinco Lists, is a video meme trend in which a Spanish text-to-speech accent is used to narrate a "top five list" of various things. The trend, which originated on TikTok in mid-2021, started to spread in meme compilations and shorts on other platforms over the following years, largely due to the ease of creating them via Google Translate's text-to-speech function, seeing a large spike in early 2023.

Origin

On October 6th, 2021, Indonesian TikToker miles.tails.prower7^[1] uploaded a TikTok that was several spliced-together meme sounds and short clips, getting only 500 likes in two years (shown below).

Two days later, on October 8th, 2021, miles.tails.prower7 reposted the TikTok,^[2] this time using a text-to-speech with a Spanish accent to turn the random clips into a "Best Momentos" video, receiving over 165,000 likes in two years and even commenting underneath that using a text-to-speech dramatically helped the meme (shown below).

Spread

Almost immediately after miles.tails.prower7's post in early October 2021, Top 5 lists started to adopt ith the text-to-speech voice consistently. For example, the October 13th, 2021, TikTok post by TikToker sunadono^[3] in which they went over their "Top 5 Strongest Anime Characters" with a mix of pure English and Spanish on certain words received over 30 likes in one year (shown below).

On January 26th, 2023, the TikToker przudziu^[4] uploaded a TikTok in which the Top 5 list was used to showcase the Top 5 Moai Statues," getting over 500 likes in two months while showing its versatility in being able to be used for any type of list (shown below).
