Trapped in an Elevator for 41 Hours is a viral video featuring sped-up security camera footage of a man who spent 41 hours trapped in an elevator. The video was widely circulated online after being uploaded to YouTube in 2008, spawning various parodies on the video-sharing site.
Origin
On October 15th, 1999, 34-year-old production manager Nicholas White was trapped inside an elevator for a total of 41 hours, which was captured on video by a security camera. On April 14th, 2008, The New Yorker[1] posted the footage at increased speed to YouTube, which gathered upwards of 9.04 million views within seven years (shown below).
Spread
On May 4th, 2008, YouTuber PsycoFloodMachine uploaded a parody of the video titled "Trapped in an Elevator… With Diarrhea" (shown below, left). Within seven years, the video gained over 250,000 views and 260 comments. The same day, YouTuber thepattons uploaded a video titled "Trapped In Elevator 41 Years" (shown below, right).
