#TweetFur is a hashtag used by Furry artists on Twitter in tweets featuring illustrations of the blue bird Twitter icon as an anthropomorphic character.
Origin
On December 31st, 2018, Twitter user @fluffysmolcloud tweeted a screenshot of the Twitter Brand Guidelines that stated "Don't anthropomorphize the logo," along with an anthropomorphized drawing of the logo, gaining over 2,800 retweets within four days.[1] The following day, @fluffysmolcloud tweeted the hashtag "#TweetFur"[2] along with another drawing of the character. Within three days, tweet gained over 1,300 retweets and 5,400 likes (shown below).
Spread
In the coming days, many other users contributed their drawings of the Twitter bird as an anthropomorphic creature with the hashtag #TweetFur. Popular examples include a tweet by @sindenbock that gained over 560 retweets and 2,000 likes (shown below, left) and a tweet by @Kallulily that gained over 80 retweets and 550 likes (shown below, right).
Other users made jokes about the trend by showing pictures of other famous blue birds. For example, user @cinnamonrolldj posted an image of the Pokémon Articuno (shown below, left). User @friedVHS posted a picture of Jewel from the animated film Rio (shown below, right).
On January 3rd, @flufflysmolcloud clarified that they had not created the original drawing, but were the first person to post it on Twitter. They credited the drawing to user @rokirokinorooru (shown below).
