About
Twittypet and TumblrClan are slang terms popularized on Tumblr to characterize the joking rivalry between former Twitter users who are considering moving to the website in the wake of Elon Musk's acquisition of the company and preexisting Tumblr users. The names are intentionally cringeworthy and were conceived as part of Tumblr users' campaign to scare off Twitter migrants in November 2022. The "Twittypet" is often drawn as a small, puppylike blue creature at odds with a darker, larger cat representing "Tumblrclan."
Origin
On November 6th, 2022, Tumblr user evilmario666[1] posted, "Remember. TumblrClan is no place for a fox-hearted Twittypet like Elon Musk," gaining over 60,000 notes in one week (shown below).
Spread
On November 7th, 2022, Tumblr user fuzzyfoe[2] posted art depicting an anthropomorphized version of "TumblrClan" and Mario intimidatingly looking at a small blue cat representing "Twittypet," gaining over 1,800 notes in four days (shown below, left). On November 11th, user imagination-confusion[3] posted similar art, gaining over 300 notes in less than 24 hours (shown below, right).
On November 8th, Tumblr user evilmario666[4] then posted "TumblrClan" icons, gaining over 5,100 notes in three days (shown below).
