About
Two Hearts Plus Blue Box (❤️❤️➕🟦) refers to a marketing campaign which involved a series of promotional materials by the social media accounts of the British television series Doctor Who in the lead up to the 60th Anniversary celebrations in 2023.
The promotional material included the use of emojis before announcements were made with many reacting to it by creating humorous parodies and then speculating what the emojis could represent. The first emojis were a symbol of the main character and their ship, the Doctor and the TARDIS:
❤️❤️ Two hearts symbolising the Doctor having two hearts
➕🟦 Plus a blue box which references the TARDIS, the Doctor's ship.
The use of the marketing campaign has been parodied on social media websites such as Twitter and Facebook.
Background
In 2021, it was announced that Russell T Davies, who was the showrunner of Doctor Who from 2005 until 2010, would return for the 60th Anniversary onwards.
Ncuti Gatwa's Casting
The first instance of was when Ncuti Gatwa posted a picture of two hearts plus a blue box on his Instagram account. Russell T Davies also posted the picture on his Instagram account shortly afterwards.
Some already guessed that Ncuti Gatwa would be revealed as the next incarnation of The Doctor, this was later confirmed to be true.

David Tennant and Catherine Tate's Return
On May 15th, 2022, another picture of two hearts with a plus symbol was posted on Doctor Who's social media accounts with a diamond shape. (see below)
Approximately an hour later, David Tennant and Catherine Tate, who portrayed the Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble were confirmed to return for the 60th Anniversary celebrations.

"They're Back"
They're Back was a phrase used by Russell T Davies before the revelation of David Tennant and Catherine Tate's return to the show. After people spotted his comment on Instagram, many began to tweet and speculate what the context was. A lot of the posts included humorous claims of the return of minor characters featured throughout Doctor Who (see below)
Parodies
After the initial postings of the pictures, both before and after Ncuti Gatwa's casting as the Doctor, several picture edits and tweets were posted with some mocking the marketing style. (see below)
