Two Sperm Cells Talking refers to a series of memes depicting a dialogue between two sperm cells, with one expressing hopes to become a human with certain traits, and the other disillusioning him by revealing that they are not travelling through a womb, but were instead released into another, often absurd or gross receptacle. The format is also known by I Can't Wait to Be An X and Bruh We In X snowclones.

Origin

The exact origin of the original comic is currently unknown. The comic is presumed to have been scanned from a book or a magazine and uploaded online in early 2000s. In the comic, two sperm cells discuss the distance they have to cover before reaching the fallopian tubes, with the second sperm indirectly revealing that they were released during oral sex.

On May 5th, 2004, Blogspot^[1] user The Wizard of "Oz" made the earliest available repost of the image (shown below). The image was widely circulated online in the following years. For example, on May 18th, 2008, eBaum's World^[2] user KillerP posted the comic as a part of a collection. On August 28th, 2013, the comic was posted to 9GAG^[3] where it received over 8,600 points in seven years.

On December 28th, 2015, "Schluss Mit Lustig!," a collection of humorous comics by Norman Winter,^[4] was published. The cover of the book featured a comic copying the original one. Winter's comic is likely to have been posted on Horrorklinik.de website and Facebook page prior to being featured in the book. In mid-February 2017, a translated version of the comic went viral, with posts on Imgur,^[5] Facebook^[6] and other sites (shown below, right).

Prior to November 17th, 2017, an unknown user posted the earliest known meme based which utilized the second comic as a meme template, replacing the punchline. On November 17th, 2017, Redditor^[7] codysgameword made the earliest found repost of the meme to /r/dankmemes subreddit, where it gained over 1,700 upvotes in six months (shown below). An August 16th, 2018, repost^[8] of the image to /r/DeepFriedMemes received over 11,000 upvotes in six months.

Spread

The format saw further spread online in late 2018 and 2019. For example, on December 27th, 2018, Redditor^[9] zRedyoshi posted a meme that received over 120 upvotes in /r/okbuddyretard in six months (shown below, left). On April 20th, 2019, Redditor^[10] i_likefornigt posted a meme that received over 430 upvotes in /r/mythologymemes in six months (shown below, center). On May 26th, 2019, Redditor^[11] Bigdamos posted a meme in which the original comic was used as a template for the first time (authorship unconfirmed). The post received over 1,500 upvotes in /r/dankmemes in six months. A same-day repost^[12] in /r/HolUp received over 9,500 upvotes in six months.

Prior to June 2020, the format saw moderate spread online with viral examples being posted on Reddit,^[13] iFunny^[14] and other websites.

On June 21st, 2020, Facebook^[15] page Relapse Row posted a version of the meme with both speech bubbles recaptioned (shown below). The new version altered the subject of the joke to be the person mentioned by the first cell. The post received over 660 smiles and 1,400 shares and was widely circulated online in the following weeks.

The post prompted a surge of popularity of the updated format, which has gained popularity as a way of mocking various groups by presenting them as depraved and/or sexually deviant, not unlike Fandom Generalization Memes.
