Unemployed People, Being Unemployed and Unemployment refer to the state of being unemployed which is commonly portrayed in memes as freedom and bliss unburdened by the commitment of a job. The idea of the Unemployed Friend at 2pm on a Monday sparked usage of unemployment as a comedic tool in memes starting in 2022. Other memes like the Face of Unemployment joke about being broke. However, by 2024, memes about being unemployed were predominantly about it being a good thing that people should strive, relayed through layers of irony that backwardly affirm the importance of a job.
