Violent Impulses is a catchphrase most commonly attached to image macros of cats staring directly forward, as if they're currently experiencing violent impulses, contrasting their cute appearance with a violent implication. The original version was posted to Instagram in July 2021 and spread over the course of the year.

Origin

On July 27th, 2021, Instagram[1] user feedthemcats posted an image of an orange kitten staring forward with a Whisper caption reading "violent impulses" underneath its face, comedically contrasting the cute image (shown below). The post gained over 22,000 likes in three months.

The image was shared numerous times on social media, including on Facebook[2] by ghost cuck on July 29th, gaining over 1,400 shares in three months. On July 30th, Instagram[5] page beautyraccoons posted a meme inspired by the cat image macro showing the phrase over a baby raccoon, gaining over 15,000 likes in three months (shown below).

On August 10th, now-suspended Twitter[3] user @bloodmajick posted an image macro using a different orange cat[4] with the same text overtop, gaining an unknown number of likes and retweets before the suspension (shown below, left). On August 19th, Instagram[6] page cats.doing.shit posted a demotivational poster featuring a cat with drawn-on angry eyebrows and the text "stop talking your voice gives me violent impulses," gaining over 7,400 likes in two months (shown below, right).

On September 28th, Instagram[7] user meowie.exe posted a video version of the image macro with added audio of heavy breathing noises and whispering, gaining over 60,000 views and 18,700 likes in a month (shown below).
