Wakanda Tech refers to a viral video of professional football player Russell Okung claiming to have attended "Wakanda Tech," a fictional university based on the country found in the superhero franchise Black Panther.

Origin

On December 2nd, 2018, the official Twitter [1] account of Sunday Night Football, NBC's premier professional football time block, tweeted a clip from that evening's broadcast in which Russell Okung claims to have attened "Wakanda Tech." The tweet received more than 1,800 retweets and 6,100 likes in 24 hours (shown below).

Following the post, people online reacted postively to the clip. Twitter[2] user @thorstrilogy tweeted the clip with the caption "THIS FOOTBALL PLAYER SAID HE GRADUATED FROM WAKANDA TECH IM-" The tweet received more than 15 retweets and 60 likes in 24 hours (shown below, left). Writer Jemele Hill tweeted the clip with the caption, "Manager: Why don’t we all go around the room and say who you are and where you’re from Me." The tweet received more than 915 retweets and 4,900 likes in 24 hours (shown below, center). Twitter[3] user @lilkenchi tweeted a screenshot from Wikipedia of Okung's entry edited to read that he had attended "Wakanda Tech" (shown below, right).
