About

We're X, Of Course We Y is a phrasal template that was popularized on TikTok in late 2023 and early 2024, with people classifying themselves as part of a certain group, profession or subculture and providing a list of habits and characteristics that align with that group. The trend began in November 2023, spawning notable viral videos and trends such as We're DINKs.

Origin

The earliest known videos part of the "We're X, Of Course We Y" TikTok trend are videos posted by a TikTok account run by a children's grief camp on November 11th[1] and November 12th,[2] 2023. The videos, posted by @experiencecamps, gathered over 2.5 million and 500,000 plays, respectively, in two months (seen below).

On November 23rd, TikToker[6] @queenthotty posted a similar video about being from the state of Michigan and gathered over 1 million plays and 160,000 likes in two months (seen below, right).

Going into 2024, more videos following the trend spread to X, as seen in a TikTok video originally posted by user @garzacrew.[7] X[8] user @Iustwetrust quoted the video and criticized it by saying, "we’re gen alpha influencers! of course our parents are okay with exploiting us to creeps and predators on the internet as long as they get to make a few dollars off of us!" The post gathered over 130,000 likes in two days (seen below).
