About

When You Find Out She Can Cook is a viral video trend on TikTok in which a scene is played out involving a boyfriend ready to break up with his girlfriend until he tries her cooking. Each bite the boyfriend takes of the meal changes his mind to the point of wanting to move in with and/or marry her. In early 2022, the trend was picked up by many other TikTokers on the platform who used a similar phrasal template for their own scenarios.

Origin

The earliest form of the scene would appear on May 26th, 2021. TikToker Shay' posted a three-part scene[1][2][3] in which his girlfriend makes him vegan spaghetti (shown below). Shay' is so impressed by her cooking that he asks to marry her.

The addition of the "boyfriend wanting to break up" portion didn't appear until January 2022, which started the trend. On January 18th, 2022, McGowen D James[4] posted a video in which he's about to break up with his girlfriend until he takes a bite of her cooking (shown below). The video received over 2.7 million views in over one month.

Videos by other TikTokers using similar scenarios would follow shortly after. On January 19th, 2022, TikToker GRASA100[5] posted his version of the scene (shown below). The video received over 10.7 million views in over one month. On January 22nd, 2022, TikToker MikeMizzle[6] would post his version of the scene, but with African food (shown below).
