Winrar is a .ZIP and .RAR file archiving and compression utility first released in 1995. It is commonly known to people as having an infinite free trial, as well as quick and easy installation and usage.

As slang

The word Winrar^[1] is often used as slang alternate to the word "Winner" and is often substituted in existing phrases which contain the word "winner." This can be seen in the phrase "A winrar is you" (see: A Winner Is You) and "Teh winrar" (see: teh)

Spread

One of the first documented appearances of "Teh Winrar" was on XLtronic.com^[2], an electronic music message board. On January 13th, 2004, user TehLaw posted the following comment:

"About as swedish as a dead kangaroo."

Another user, named princo responded:

TEH WINRAR?

Eleven months later, On December 12th, 2004, EncyclopediaDramatica founder Girlvinyl created the first revision^[3] of the EncyclopediaDramatica Winrar article.

Someone who wins! A leet speak way of jokingly saying something or someone is the best. Also often used with high sarcasm.

Ex. "OMG! YOU ARE TEH WINNAR!!!oneoneon!"

Post-Slang

Winrar survived this leetspeak period and became known for it's infinite free trial. Because of this, many memes were made about it either related to Winrar being the best company ever, or about how owning Winrar is a sign of extreme wealth. This can be seen with the meme posted on the subreddit r/memes by redditor^[4] u/Dalore740, which received 78 upvotes in one year (shown below).
