Wizard "I Cast" is a series of wizardposting memes, including image macros and animations, in which a wizard is depicted casting an unusual and comedic spell using the phrasal template "I cast X," "X" being the name of the spell. The earliest known example of the "I cast" format was posted to Tumblr in 2018 and became notably popular throughout 2023 and early 2024 on sites like Instagram, TikTok, Reddit and Facebook.

Origin

On July 29th, 2018, now-deleted Tumblr^[1] user sexywizardsdotcom posted an image of a wizard casting a spell, writing, "I CAST FUCK YOU," garnering over 139,000 notes in six years (shown below). This is the earliest known example of the meme.

Spread

The meme gained viral spread over the following years and inspired new variations. On February 15th, 2022, a Redditor posted a meme to /r/dndmemes^[2] using the same wizard image as sexywizardsdotcom, garnering over 4,800 upvotes in two years (shown below, left). On January 26th, 2023, Facebook^[3] page Geeky Glam Gamer posted another meme using the same image, garnering over 1,200 reactions and 800 shares in a year (shown below, right).

On November 2nd, 2023, TikToker^[4] @finalzephyr posted a voiced over version of an "I cast" meme using the same image, this time featuring the wizard casting "shit pant," garnering over a million views in five months (shown below). Several examples of the meme were posted to /r/wizardposting^[5][6] that December.

On December 10th, iFunny^[7] user BigDrip posted an image macro in which a wizard casts "unwiped asscheeks," garnering over 22,000 smiles in four months (shown below, left). On the same day, Tumblr^[8] user sandmandaddy69 posted an image macro where a wizard casts "slow internet," garnering over 100,000 notes in the same span of time (shown below, right).

On December 21st, 2023, Instagram^[9] user howitfeelstochewfivegum posted an image macro of a wizard fishing simply captioned "I cast," garnering over 100,000 likes in four months (shown below). On April 10th, 2024, the Facebook^[10] page Chaos Zweihander +10 posted an image macro where a wizard casts "forgive yourself," garnering over 2,600 shares and 3,800 reactions in two weeks.
