Woodchuck Revolution TikTok refers to a series of videos on TikTok typically set to "The Woodchuck Song" in which users reference and act out skits relating to a fictional alternate history where woodchucks have taken over the world, inspiring a small human rebellion to rise up. Videos are typically uploaded with the hashtag #woodchuckchallenge.[11]

Origin

On July 17th, 2020, AronChupa & Little Sis Nora released "The Woodchuck Song" along with a music video to YouTube,[1] garnering over 9.4 million views and 186,000 likes in 6 months (shown below).



On January 10th, piptersen uploaded a video to TikTok[2] set to the song (under an original sound) featuring an on-screen caption reading, "POV: you live in a society that was overthrown by woodchucks and you hear their battle song in the distance and know you and the resistance have to fight the final battle for your freedom" (shown below). The video garnered over 2.3 million views in 2 days.

On January 10th, 2021, piptersen uploaded another video[3] referencing the Woodchuck revolution, garnering over 528,000 views in 2 days (shown below, left). On January 11th he uploaded a third video[4] under the hashtag #woodchuckchallenge, garnering over 198,000 views in a day (shown below, right).

The success of the videos inspired other TikTokers to play along, creating their own videos imagining an alternate history where the world is ruled by woodchucks. On January 11th, haydenzych uploaded a video to TikTok[5] acting as if he was a pilot on a suicide mission facing off against woodchucks, garnering over 1.5 million views in a day (shown below, left). On the same day, kelley.heyer uploaded a video to TikTok[6] acting as if she'd been taken by the woodchuck army, garnering over 424,000 views in 20 hours (shown below, right).

On the same day, j00ciejackie uploaded a video to TIkTok[7] depicting himself being converted to "woodchuckism" garnering over 647,000 views in a day (shown below, left). Lit_as_in_literature uploaded a video[8] depicting himself getting his family across a river to safety from the woodchucks, garnering over 642,000 views in a comparable span of time (shown below, right).

On the same day, eamonsaccount uploaded a video to TikTok[9] where he betrays the resistance for "one million chucks" garnering over 641,000 views in a day (shown below, left). Eryngr uploaded a video[10] where she reveals to her daughter that she is half woodchuck, and sends her to be a double agent, garnering over 324,000 views in a comparable span of time (shown below, right).

As of January 12th, 2021, videos under the hashtag #woodchuckchallenge have gained over 16.1 million total views. Pip's original sound has been used in over 2,980 videos.
