About

"Wow Cool Post IGN, Thanks For Sharing" is a copypasta often posted in response to any content published on the Facebook page for IGN. While some have speculated that the comments were part of an alt-right troll campaign, others have argued the posts are submitted by commenters trying to acquire top fan badges.

Origin

While the exact origin of the copypasta is unknown, "Wow cool post IGN" comments began appearing with increased frequency on the official IGN Facebook[5] page in early May 2019.

Spread

On May 10th, 2019, a screenshot of Facebook comments using the copypasta was submitted to the /r/therewasanattempt subreddit (shown below).

That day, a thread about the copypasta was submitted to the ResetEra Forums,[3] discussing a rumor that the comments were started by "alt-right trolls due to IGN being too 'woke'," Also on May 10th, a post was submitted to /r/OutOfTheLoop,[2] where the top comment suggested that the "alt-right trolls" explanation was "a stretch" and speculated it may be "folks trying to get top fan badges." Meanwhile, Redditor DuxDuxDux404 submitted a post asking about the comments titled "Is there a protest against IGN?" to /r/IGN,[4] to which Redditor Zeniphyre speculated the comments were mocking the IGN Facebook for posting the same content repeatedly.
