About

"Yakko's World" is a song sung by the character Yakko in the animated television show Animaniacs in which he lists nearly all the countries in the world extant in 1993. The song became arguably the best known song from the show and online was later parodied in replacement remixes.

Origin

"Yakko's World" premiered in the second episode of Animaniacs, which aired September 14th, 1993.[1] The lyrics are set to "Jarabe Tapatío," a traditional Mexican folk song better known as the Mexican Hat Dance.[2] The song was uploaded to YouTube on July 14th, 2010 by user 1989rickman and has gained over 7.4 million views (shown below).

Spread

The song has been thoroughly dissected for inaccuracies including omitted countries and falsely-identified countries.[3] On February 27th, 2018, YouTuber Deuterium's Other Channel posted an edit of the song in which he pointed out all the inaccuracies, gaining over 376,000 views (shown below).

On June 25th, 2017, The Nerdist posted a video of Yakko voice actor Rob Paulsen performing the song with an additional verse added which covers countries omitted or created between 1993 and present day.

Popular parodies of the song include an edit featuring Kim Jong Un uploaded by YouTuber morges that gained over 2.2 million views (shown below, left). An edit posted by The Unusual Suspect that used lines from films for the countries gained over 1.3 million views (shown below, right).

Replacement Remixes

Online, the song has been edited in numerous Replacement Remixes. Some of the most popular include an edit by The Great Celery which added a scene from the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man films and gained over 949,000 views (shown below, left) and an edit by Brian Becker which slowed the song down whenever a country with a military conflict was listed, gaining over 773,000 views (shown below, right).
