Ya'll Shouldn't Have Given Me That $1,200 is a phrase used on Twitter that is typically followed by a cursed image of something that could be seen as expensive. These tweets, referring to stimulus checks given to U.S. residents during the coronavirus outbreak, became popular in April 2020.
Origin
On April 17th, Twitter user @ohTEEJ[2] uploaded an image of a woman with a horse at a gas station captioned, "Shouldn’t have given me that $1200. copped a mustang" (shown below). The tweet gained over 54,000 likes and 11,800 retweets in five days.

Spread
On April 17th, 2020, Twitter user @hoesayb_ [3] tweeted "shouldn’t have given me that $1200" paired with an image of a long van (shown below, left). The tweet received over 11,500 likes and 2,500 retweets in five days. The next day, @JoeyMulinaro[4] uploaded an image of a Star Wars fridge captioned, "Shouldn’t have given me that $1200" which received over 24,500 likes and 2,200 retweets in four days.


On April 19th, Twitter user @Simp4Sluts[5] tweeted an image of a turtle with a Gucci shell captioned, "Y’all shouldn’t have given me that $1200" (shown below). The tweet garnered over 41,900 likes and 9,300 retweets in three days. StayHipp[1] uploaded an article on "Ya'll Shouldn't Have Given Me That $1,200" meme.
