Yobama

About

Yobama is a portmanteau of "Yoda" and "Obama," which is commonly associated with a photoshopped face swap image combining the Star Wars character Yoda with the face of Barack Obama.

Origin

In June 2009, a photoshop contest titled "Celebrity Star Wars 5" was created on Worth1000] User Fichtenbrenner submitted a photoshopped picture of the character Yoda with Barack Obama's face (shown below).

Spread

On May 11th, 2018, Instagram user @vert_pio_^[2] reposted the photoshopped image along with the hashtag #yobama.^[3] On December 11th, the Meemes YouTube channel uploaded a compilation of Yobama-related memes (shown below, left). On December 13th, YouTuber Bepis uploaded a Crab Rave remix featuring the Yobama image (shown below, right).

On December 13th, Instagram user @bepis.man posted a video featuring the Yobama image played along with the Crab Rave song (shown below). Within 72 hours, the post gained over 23,600 likes.

The day, Instagram user @mrdisapproval.if uploaded a video featuring the Name a More Iconic Duo tweet followed by pictures of Yobama and Obunga (shown below).

On December 15th, Redditor Ragzio submitted a Me, an Intellectual image macro depicting Yobama as the "perfect crossover character" to /r/dankmemes,^[4] where it received more than 14,200 points (95% upvoted) and 90 comments within 48 hours.
