About

"You. Come. Now." is an animated GIF of a faceless man dressed in a suit making a hand gesture as if to summon the viewer's presence in an alluring manner. The GIF was initially met with swooning approval on Tumblr, but it soon became derided as a superficial play on the theme of dominance and submission popularized through 50 Shades of Grey.

Origin

In May 2013, Tumblr user n4ughtybear^[1] posted a GIF of himself wearing his dress uniform for work and making a "come hither" gesture with his hand, which garnered more than 50,000 notes within first two months. The original post has since been removed from n4ughtybear's blog.

Spread

During its early onset, n4ughtybear's GIF drew a series of complimenting notes from female Tumblr bloggers, with many likening the model depicted in the image to Christian Grey, the male protagonist of the 2011 erotic romance novel 50 Shades of Grey.

Throughout the summer of 2013, numerous copycat GIFs inspired by n4ughtybear's post surfaced on Tumblr^[2], including several parodies featuring derivative hand gestures (shown below). By October 9th, Tumblr Trends 2013^[4] had picked up on the latest meme circulating on the site.

Notable Examples

In addition to the parodies of n4ughtybear's hand gesture, many others went as far as to poke fun at the commenters by recreating the original thread with alternate GIFs (show below).
