You Have So Much to Live For refers to a series of exploitable webcomics in which a person attempts to stop a friend from committing suicide. However, after learning the suicidal friend's reasons, the would-be hero decides to jump out a window. Online, people have replaced the reasons for suicide for humorous effect.

Origin

On February 1st, 2018, Tumblr ^[1] user thebriarrpatch published a four-panel webcomic of a man being talked off a ledge by a friend. However, after learning that the video Overwatch's "mercy patch just went live" the comic's hero dives out of a window. The post (shown below) received more than 220 notes in less than one year.

Spread

Within a month, variations of the comic began appearing on the Portuguses-language website Não Entre Aki. On February 27th, Não Entre Aki^[2] user MugiwaranoGoku posted a variation (shown below, left), which received more than 650 points in five months.

On August 1st, 2018, Redditor ^[3] MCmichelin posted the original comic and a template on the /r/MemeEconomy subreddit. The post received more than 16,000 points (89% upvoted) and 2,000 comments in 24 hours.

That day, an anonmyous 4chan ^[4] user posted the template on the /v/ message board (example below, center).

Additionally, variations began appearing in other subreddits. That day, Redditor^[5] srishabhiitk posted a version in the /r/ProgrammerHumor subreddit in which the person says, "They released another JavaScript framework." The post (shown below, right) received more than 1,100 points (97% upvoted) in 24 hours.
