You Were at My Wedding Denise is a catchphrase deriving from a tweet written by Meaghan McCain directed at The Federalist contributor, Denise McAllister, for criticizing The View.
Origin
On March 25th, 2019, Denise McAllister[1] tweeted, "Can someone explain to me the purpose of The View? It seems to me to be a roundtable of delusional mental midgets ricocheting ignorance and lack of emotional regulation" (shown below, left). She linked an article about The View with Meghan MCCain featured as the thumbnail. The tweet gained 1,700 retweets and 8,000 likes in two days. That same day, Meghan McCain[2] responded to the tweet saying "you were at my wedding Denise…." (shown below, right). The tweet gained 2,800 retweets and 19,481 likes in two days.
Spread
On March 25th, 2019, Twitter users took notice of the comeback. Twitter user @TajPHL[5] tweeted, "brb replying to even the mildest criticism with 'you were at my wedding Denise'" (shown below, left). The tweet accumulated 95 retweets and 480 likes in two days. That same day, Twitter user @claireannrice[6] tweeted, "I saw everyone saying "You were at my wedding Denise" and I searched it to find out why. Not disappointed. Also, Twitter is literally my elementary school were someone says something stupid and everyone repeats it back to them in a stupid voice" (shown below, right). The tweet garnered 55 likes in two days.
On March 26th, Denise McAllister[3] replied to McCain's wedding tweet saying, "I think the photo on the story made it look like this was personally directed at you, Meghan. My comment was directed at The View and the mental midgets who surround you. I don’t even know how you do it daily and my hat is off to you for standing strong in the midst of crazy" (shown below, left). The tweet gained 1,120 likes and 80 retweets in a day. That same day, Meghan McCain[4] responded to Twitter user's use of the catchphrase by tweeting, "'You were at my wedding, Denise…' can be everyone’s clap back to everyone, everywhere, forever. My gift to the internet. Thank you for the support. ♥️Meghan McCain" (shown below, right). The tweet garnered 730 retweets and 13, 900 likes in a day.
