About
"Where Did You Go" by S'morez, also identified by the producer tag Young Fly On The Track, refers to a song made by rapper S'morez in late 2015 that became a sound used on TikTok starting in August 2021, more notably in October 2021. The sound also had a producer tag that blatantly stated the n-word. The meme trended on TikTok going into 2023, additionally inspiring memes about Plants vs. Zombies due to the song's "bell" sound being a sample from the game.
Origin
On September 24th, 2015, New Jersey rapper S'morez, whose real name is Darius Nixon, uploaded a music video for his new song "Where Did You Go (Prod. By YUNGFLYXO X DJ N****R BEATS)" to YouTube. [1] The video (shown below) received roughly 600,000 views and 41,000 likes over the course of six years. S'morez is most active on his Twitter [2] account, where he's gained roughly 7,200 followers since he created it in August 2009. S'morez is also known for producing the beat for Lil B's track "Play The Hood."[3]
Origin on TikTok
The earliest known use of the sound[4] on TikTok was in a video uploaded by TikToker[5] @irogueftwb on August 13th, 2021. The video (since deleted) received roughly 4,300 plays and 210 likes over the course of three months. TikToker @irogueftwb layered text over the video reading, "ummmm," referring to the n-word abruptly being said.
Spread
In October 2021, the sound received an increased amount of attention and use on TikTok. The first TikTokers to use the sound in October both uploaded videos on October 20th, 2021,[6][7] however, along with the original video and sound, they have since been deleted.
As users became familiar with the n-word's inclusion in the hip-hop beat, a TikToker decided to create a new sound that removed the n-word from the beat. TikToker[8] @octagonall_ created the sound for a video he posted on October 31st, 2021. The video (shown below) received roughly 1.7 million plays and 306,900 likes over the course of three days. More TikTokers began to use this sound[9] going into November 2021, playing off the expectation of the n-word, essentially making the viewer say it in their own head.
