Zesty Sonic or Freaky Sonic refers to a fan-made animation of character 2017x from the 2017 reboot of the Sonic.EXE creepypasta, in which 2017X fixes his ears, licks his licks and rubs his hand in a sleazy, lascivious manner. The animation, which is a re-animation of the Chica Rizz reaction clip, went viral on TikTok in September 2024 and spawned a caption meme format.

Origin

2017X or 2017Sonic.exe is a fan-made character based on the 2017 reboot of the Sonic.EXE creepypasta. The character, created by JoeDoughBoi, is a take on X (who is also referred to as 2017X), the main antagonist of the creepypasta, who is based on the video game character Sonic the Hedgehog.^[1][2]

On August 18th, 2024, X^[3] user and animator @Mr_YZ10 made a post promising to make a 2017X version of the Chica Rizz animation if their posts gathered 1,700 likes. On August 19th, 2024, @Mr_YZ10 posted the fan-made animation of the character, with 2017X fixing his hears, licking his lips and winking. The video (shown below) garnered over 147,000 views, 1,000 reposts and 4,000 likes on X^[4] in six weeks.

On August 26th, 2024, TikTok^[5] user @chancho.potato reposted the video to the platform, referring to the character as "Zesty Sonic". The upload accumulated over 1.8 million views and 300,000 likes in one month.

On August 31st, 2024, TikTok^[6] user @creatorofspaghetti posted the earliest found meme based on the video, captioning it with a joke about Genshin Impact players. The video (shown below) gained over 39,000 views and 4,800 likes in one month.

On September 1st, Instagram^[7] user reel.postz posted the earliest viral meme based on the animation, a caption meme that received over 266,000 likes in one month (shown below).

On September 12th, 2024, TikTok^[8] user @deathsentencedd posted a caption meme in which they licked their lips in a similar way, with the video transitioning into the Zesty Sonic animation. The post (shown below) received over 5.2 million views and 1.2 million likes in three weeks.

The video inspired a video caption TikTok trend in which users recreated the animation.
