About

Kick.exe is a viral video of a 3D animated version of the Sonic.exe fan character Rewrite speaking Japanese then kicking Tails off of the screen and laughing. The video was uploaded to YouTube in August 2023 and inspired remakes and edits over the following weeks.

Origin

On August 14th, 2023, YouTuber[1] Springless Music, aka SpringlessEcho, the creator of the Sonic.exe fan character Rewrite,[10] who has a similar appearance to Sonic the Hedgehog, posted an amateur animation titled "Kick" of Rewrite saying, "As I said before, in your case," in Japanese, then kicking Tails and giggling, garnering over 2 million views in a month (shown below).



Spread

The video became the subject of edits and recreations on YouTube over the following weeks, with some examples also being uploaded to TikTok.[8] On August 21st, 2023, YouTuber[2] Mr Shepy posted a video speeding up and slowing down the video that gained over 210,000 views in three weeks. On August 23rd, YouTuber[3] Mr. Mill posted a video editing the original in a variety of ways, garnering over 100,000 views in the same rough span of time (shown below, left). On August 24th, YouTuber[4] MIRMAX posted a reanimated version that gained over 18,000 views in the same span of time (shown below, right).



On August 26th, YouTuber[5] Paul Wil slap u posted a version of the meme that garnered over 165,000 views in two weeks (shown below).



On August 27th, YouTuber[6] EhSanKingMT posted a video editing the original in several ways, garnering over 738,000 views in two weeks (shown below, left). On August 29th, YouTuber[7] Emot Animation posted a version of the animation that gained over 279,000 views in the same rough span of time. On September 8th, YouTuber[9] Lessons In Meme Culture posted a video about the meme, garnering over 125,000 views in three days.
