After Winning Gold, Simone Biles Takes Shot At Mykala Skinner, A Gymnast Who Was Once Unimpressed With Team USA But Is Not 'Unimpressed McKayla'

After the U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, former U.S. Women's gymnast "MyKayla Skinner" trended on Twitter. This is because Simone Biles captioned an Instagram post celebrating their victory with a jab at Skinner's criticism of the 2024 U.S. Women's team as having a low work ethic and a lack of talent, save for Biles. The post reads, "lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions."

Skinner's comments came in a June YouTube video that's since been deleted in which she discussed the selection for the team. She stated, “Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn’t like what it used to be… A lot of girls don’t work as hard. The girls just don’t have the work ethic.” She later apologized for the comments on Twitter.

While former U.S. Women's gymnast MyKayla Skinner may have been unimpressed with U.S. Women's Gymnastics in her comments, it is important to note she is not the former U.S. Women's gymnast who earned the nickname Unimpressed McKayla. That is McKayla Maroney, who for her part, seemed to applaud Biles' dig at Skinner.

Biles' apparent shade (and the ensuing Maroney/Skinner confusion) became a hot topic on social media, as many expressed support for Biles and her teammates Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera against Skinner's criticism. Among those expressing support for Biles included some of those very teammates.

Evidently, Biles' post hit a nerve, as she tweeted that she had been "blocked," almost assuredly by Skinner, this afternoon.
