Alfredo Truck And Tomato Truck Spill Sauce On Highway Inspire Memes On Twitter And Smells In Memphis
Much to the delight of Twitter and at the expense of Memphis, Tennessee, a semi-truck carrying Italian alfredo sauce was hit on I-55 yesterday, spilling gallons of the cheesy white liquid onto the highway that stretched across the asphalt for hundreds of feet.
Memes surfaced en masse following a viral video of the spill that happened just a day after a similar spill in California involving a tomato truck.

According to local Memphis news reports, the semi-truck hit the median divider and then the trailer's side was ripped open, spilling the alfredo sauce over every lane of southbound I-55. The major roadway was shut down for the remainder of the day as the smell accumulated in the hot summer weather.
Once a video from the overpass above surfaced on Twitter and social media, replies and quote retweets amassed, producing some hilarious content and funny memes that snowballed into the following day.
When Alfredo sauce is spilled on a highway it’s technically referred to as an Accidenté https://t.co/884mqV20of

I'm picturing a tanker pulling up to Olive Garden and just pumping Alfredo sauce into the ground like it's premium unleaded https://t.co/QOdtYGFm9y

Many of the subsequent memes and reactions referenced a similar spill that happened on I-80 in California on Thursday involving a tomato truck crashing and spilling, making the highway a red and saucy mess. The proximity in time of the accidents resulted in satirical Italian memes, joking about Olive Garden's supply chain and Chef Boyardee's imagined reaction.
First the spilled tomatoes now the Alfredo sauce. Olive Garden is having a bad supply chain day. https://t.co/SpIlqmQ7vt

If you are a trucker carrying pesto sauce across the United States you need to get off the road right now. Final Pastanation is upon us, it isn’t safe out there pic.twitter.com/CpxnC0O0TD

Hopefully, the internet won't see such egregious food crimes for quite some time. As of today, the Memphis alfredo spill seems to be cleaned up, however, will a "corn spill" be next? That's what meme creators are now referencing, thanks to the virality of TikTok's "Corn Kid song."
