Andrew Callaghan Leaves All Gas No Brakes
Andrew Callaghan, the host and creator of All Gas No Brakes, announced he had split from the the wildly popular YouTube travel series on Instagram last night. Leaving the series behind, which has amassed more than a million subscribers on YouTube, Andrew and longtime partners Nic and Evan are citing a loss of creative control over the show.
Posting on Instagram last night, Callaghan stated that he no longer received income from the show's YouTube and Patreon. That day, the @allgasnobrakesshow verified Instagram account apologized for a lack of updates and announced a search for "international correspondents" for the show.
"I am no longer associated with All Gas No Brakes," Andrew Callaghan wrote in an Instagram post. "I no longer receive any of the Patreon crowdfunding, YouTube monetization or any other show income."
"I no longer receive any of the Patreon crowdfunding, YouTube monetization or any other show income."
In addition to his leaving, Callaghan also announced the departure of fellow creators Nic Mosher and Evan Gilbert-Katz. He says that trio has "no control over the accounts or the future of the show."
Callaghan created All Gas No Brakes at age 20, with the self-publication of All Gas No Brakes: A Hitchhiker's Diary, a collection of essays about his experiences hitchhiking in America as a teenager. This led to a deal with Doing Things Media, a digital media firm known for working with numerous meme accounts, including @Shitheadsteve, @MiddleClassFancy and @AnimalsDoingThings.
"At 21, I pitched the idea of a video-based road show to a production company, who loaned me an RV to make videos and explore America with my best friends," writes Callaghan. "I was ecstatic, who I signed an employment contract without reading it."
"Lesson learned."
Meanwhile, the @allgasnobreaksshow Instagram account, presumably still being run by Doing Things, announced a search for "International correspondents" in a potential bid to bring the show overseas.
Callaghan, however, promises to continue to produce new work, stating that the break from Doing Things is not the end.
"I can't wait to show you guys what I'm doing next."
