Blizzard has revealed designs for several characters from Overwatch 2, a PvE-oriented sequel of its 2016 multiplayer game Overwatch. Veterans of the series will have no trouble recognizing the heroes, as it appears that Blizzard is committed to preserving the outlines and color schemes of each of the characters — maybe even too committed, some meme-loving players decided, as the lack of difference between the designs spawned a meme trend on Twitter.

Last Friday, Blizzard revealed new designs for some of the Overwatch 2 characters, including Widowmaker, McCree, Mercy, Tracer and Winston via its official Twitter account.

Immediately following the reveal, users on Twitter responded to Blizzard with memes about the new designs looking not-so-different from what they already are in the original game.

The one difference that really drew attention was the lighter skin tone of gunslinger McCree, with memes ensuing on the topic from a number of users who saw the opportunity as perfect meme material.

Genji's new drip, a comfy hoodie to keep his cybernetic body warm at all times, also got some attention from memers on the platform.

Designs aside, the news that Overwatch 2 will not have 2CP (Two Capture Point) maps in competitive play was met with much enthusiasm from fans.

While the release date for the game has not yet been revealed, it's expected to come out no sooner than 2022.
