As we enter day two into this confusing new world where Twitter (a brand with over a decade of history) is suddenly now “X” to satisfy the whims of its new owner, Elon Musk, the question is, if "Twitter" is now "X," what do we do with well-established, Twitter-specific vocabulary and terms like "tweet," "retweet," etc?

The question has already posed some clear challenges, like "Twitter videos" becoming "X videos" (an issue for obvious reasons), but at the very least, we know "Tweets" are not becoming "Xeets." At least for now.

That idea is a hoax spread by Twitter user @brettdash_, who hoodwinked a sizable chunk of the site by posting a doctored screenshot of Twitter's help page instructing users on "How to Xeet" (pronounced "Zeet," presumably).

As has been pointed out by the Community Notes, the screenshot is fake, and Twitter's help page still instructs users on "How to Tweet."

Perhaps the hoax hoodwinked many because, in a Poe's Law moment, the reality sounds just as ridiculous to many.

As the controversial change to X rolled out, CNBC reported that Elon Musk declared "Tweets are now called 'Xs.'" When asked if that means "retweets" are now "re-Xs," he stated the "concept needs to be rethought."

Some are holding out hope that the rebrand to X is a brief lark, similar to when Musk changed the site's icon to Doge, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Twitter has reportedly already begun restructuring its internal operations around "X," going so far as to name one of their conference rooms the "S3Xy room."
