Corey Harris, the man who became a minor internet folk hero after he went viral for Zooming into his court hearing while driving for the charge of driving with a suspended license, was not as wantonly violating the law as the video would have you believe.

The viral video makes it look as though Harris is making the world's most obvious mistake and has been discussed widely throughout the internet, while Harris himself has even garnered some fan art and memes.

However, there's more to the story than meets the eye.

Last Friday, Detroit local ABC affiliate WXYZ published that Harris actually had the suspension on his license revoked by a judge in January 2022, but a clerical error made it so the paperwork had not gone through, which led to the comical court scene two weeks ago.

At the viral court scene in May, Judge Cedric Simpson concluded that Harris was clearly guilty of driving with a suspended license and ordered he turn himself into Washington County Jail. It is unknown if the discovery of the order to revoke the suspension of Harris' license will alter that sentencing.

For its part, social media is celebrating the discovery as though Harris has been vindicated in the incident.
