'Demon Souls,' 'God Of War 2' Headline Massive Playstation 5 Showcase That Has Gamers Stoked
Sony held a huge showcase for its upcoming PlayStation 5 yesterday, getting gamers stoked for its impressive array of launch and early-cycle titles.
The 45-minute presentation delivered lots of information about the system, which will be released on November 12th. Of course, next-generation hardware means next-generation pricing. For starters, the "disc-drive" version of the system will retail at $499. The disc-less version will go for $399. The new DualShock controller will go for $69.99, as will some games. As a bonus for Playstation Plus members, multiple classic PS4 titles will be available for free on the PlayStation 5, including Bloodborne, God of War (2018), Persona 5 and other major games.
Still, hardware lives and dies on its games, and yesterday's showcase definitely delivered on that front.
For starters, Sony unveiled a gameplay trailer for the hotly-anticipated Demon Souls remake which was frankly stunning.
The sequel to Marvel's Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Miles Morales also got a gameplay trailer, and will be a launch title with the new system.
An open-world Harry Potter game called Hogwarts Legacy is coming in 2021.
Resident Evil VIII got a new gameplay trailer, as did Final Fantasy XVI.
And finally, the presentation ended with a brief teaser for the upcoming sequel to 2018's surprising reinvigorating of God of War, apparently titled Ragnarok and coming next year.
Naturally, the showcase set off a flurry of pre-orders for the PlayStation 5, throwing nearly every retailer's online shop into chaos, with GameStop, Best Buy, and Amazon struggling to handle the mass demand for the system.
