YouTube music critic Anthony Fantano has had no shortage of haters in his decade-plus of giving albums scores like "Light 6," but he appears to have attracted his highest-profile hater yet in rapper Drake.

Yesterday, Fantano posted a joke video about how Drake "slid into his DMs." In the video, Fantano shows and "reviews" a doctored image of Drake sending him a vegan cookie recipe.

At the time, the video seemed to come out of nowhere. In hindsight, it became clear that Fantano was actually trolling Drake, who had, in fact, slid into his DMs unprompted with some, uh, "light" disses at the internet's busiest music nerd. Drake proved it by sharing the actual DMs with Fantano on his Instagram stories last night.

"Your existence is a light 1," Drake said, presumably thinking he'd been the first Fantano hater in the world to make this joke. "And the 1 is cause you are alive. And cause you somehow wifed a black girl. I'm feeling a light to decent 1 on your existence."

It is unclear why Drake decided to send hate Fantano's way. The last time Fantano discussed a Drake album was months ago, when he gave Drake's Honestly, Nevermind a "Not good/10" score. Regardless, Fantano took Drake's apparent seething and malding over his existence as a massive W.

Considering Drake is unquestionably one of the most successful rappers and pop stars going right now and Fantano is a YouTuber (albeit a very popular one), social media by and large agreed with Fantano's take on the situation — no small feat considering Fantano is famously one of the more divisive figures in the music scene. Many observers found it embarrassing for Drake that he "punched so far down."

Many also thought that Drake's punches were incredibly soft and unoriginal, making him look even worse in the developing feud. Some commenters noted that, since Drake had mentioned Fantano's wife, Dominique Boxley, he could have thrown in a dig at how the pair are getting divorced. Others felt that Fantano has more than enough attributes to make him a good roast subject, and other, more skilled haters could have absolutely ethered him.

If Drake wanted to hurt Fantano, it's reasonable to say he failed rather spectacularly in the eyes of many online. Fantano's name has been trending on Twitter all morning while Drake has almost universally been considered the "loser" in the beef.
